Claire W White, 77, of Bowen, IL died at 5:11 am Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Hickory Grove Assisted Living in Carthage, Illinois.

He was born on August 16, 1940, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Wayne and Clara (Flesner) White. He married Bonnie Fink on October 25, 1959, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bowen, IL. She survives.

Claire spent most of his career in the agriculture services business, including managing FS fertilizer plants in West Point and Carthage, and establishing/managing the Chem-Gro fertilizer plant in Bowen. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Bowen and was the Bowen Fire Chief for 26 years from 1984 to 2010. He had a passion for boating and for antique tractors. He enjoyed taking his Olivers on tractor drives with friends, and beamed with pride when his children/grandchildren joined him in driving his Oliver 88, Oliver 77 & Oliver 66 in parades. He also enjoyed going to tractor shows, tractor pulls and joining his wife in attending informal gatherings with family & friends. Later in life, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of quiet meals out with his wife, occasional small gatherings with friends, reading the paper outside on the deck and watching the US Farm Report on Sunday mornings.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his mother, Clara of Quincy, his sons, Rick White of Carthage, Rodger (Jan) White of Carthage and Randy (Sara) White of Bloomington, IL. Also surviving are his grandchildren Amiee White and Jessica White of Carthage, Shelbi White of Carthage, Kristen (Taylor) Watts of Champaign, Michael White and Ryan White of Bloomington, and step-grandchildren Craig (Anita) Wear of Carthage, Michael (Maggie) Harrell of Carthage and Dacia (Steve) Ringenberg of Dunlap, IL. He also is survived by brothers/sisters, Keith (Bettie) White of Augusta, Sandra Kendrick of Quincy, Diana (Jerry) Alexander of Quincy, Shirley (Mike) Kelly of Huntsville, John (Janice) White of Baylis, Arlis (Randy) DeJaynes of Forsythe, and numerous nieces, nephews and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne White, and brothers, David White and Leon White.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March 9, 2018, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bowen, IL with Rev. Larry Troxel officiating. Burial will follow at Bowen cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 4-7 pm at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Bowen, IL. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bowen Cemetery or Bowen Fire Department. Following the funeral service, a time of food and fellowship for family and friends will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
