Dorothy V. Torok, 102, of Plymouth, IL died at 6:15 am Friday March 16, 2018 at The Elms in Macomb, Illinois.
She was born on September 5, 1915 in Manhattan, IL to Fred and Annie Bisgrove Eason. She was married to Frank H. Torok on February 22, 1936 in Manhattan, IL. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1996
Dorothy always lived on a farm and was a farm girl all her life. Her determination and grit were an inspiration to many people. Dorothy was also a homemaker and worked as a beautician at her home and at Frankfort Terrace, a nursing home. She was a graduate of Manhattan High School and a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Church at Bowen, Illinois. Dorothy loved plants and gardening and could not wait for her spring flowers to appear. She loved animals, particularly dogs. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially being around her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and was truly the matriarch of the family. She wanted to be among the first to hold all the new babies. Dorothy had an active mind and body until the last few months and was an avid follower of political events in the country until recently . She never met a political discussion she didn't enjoy.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Pat Phelps of Plymouth, IL, Beverly (Wayne) Carmichael of Bloomington, IL and Carol (Larry) Brown of Tremont, IL ; 12 grandchildren : Scott(Cindy) Sloan of Madison , Wisconsin; Kim(Tim) King of Monticello, Illinois; Jeff(Danette) Phelps of Plymouth, Illinois; Trent(Julie) Brown of Hayward, Wisconsin, Sean(Rhonda) Sloan of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Kindra(John) Spears of Johnsburg, Illinois; Robin(Dean) Klapatch of West Chicago, Illinois; Brandon(Emily) Brown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Sonja Sloan of La Grange, Illinois; Craig Carmichael of Downs, Illinois; Greg(Jessica) Phelps of Colchester, Illinois; and Cory(Vicky) Brown of Peoria, Illinois. 38 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more due in the near future and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie and her husband Norman Sloan; a son-in-law, Bill Phelps; several great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Francis and his wife, Viola Eason, and James Eason.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday March 24, 2018 at the Plymouth Circle Community Center (former Plymouth Methodist Church) in Plymouth, IL with Rev. Sheri Renner officiating. Burial will be in Scott’s cemetery near Plymouth. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Friday at the Plymouth Circle Community Center. Memorials may be made to the Plymouth Circle Community Center or Samaritan Purse.
