Giles L.”G. L.” Griswold, 77, of Augusta, IL formerly of Plymouth, IL died at 4:02 pm Tuesday May 30, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

He was born on January 19, 1940 in Plymouth, IL to Giles E. and Pauline Bell Griswold. He first married Pat Marshall on February 25, 1961 in Palmyra, MO. He later married Connie Knowles on February 24, 2005 in Las Vegas, NV. She preceded him in death on April 6, 2013.

G.L. was a 1958 graduate of Plymouth High School and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. He was the owner and operator of Griswold Hardware and Griswold Fertilizer in Plymouth for many years and later was a rural mail carrier until his retirement. G.L. was an avid fast pitch softball player in his younger years and was well known in the area for his pitching skills, he enjoyed golfing and his many trips to Las Vegas and area Casinos. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Ansar Shrine and was an avid New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by a daughter, Angie (Todd) Rash of Macomb, IL, 2 sons, Brad Griswold (Cindy Hay)  and Marshall Griswold both of Plymouth, IL, 5 grandchildren, Kelsie, Kyle and Kacie Rash and Brooke and Kimberly Griswold all of Macomb, IL, 2 brothers, Wally (Kathy) Griswold of Springfield, IL, Steve Griswold of Plymouth, IL a step-daughter, Tonya (Jonathan Merritt) Ingram of Carthage, IL, 2 step-grandsons, 4 step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Pat Griswold.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday June 4, 2017 at the Plymouth Circle Community Center (former Plymouth Methodist Church) in Plymouth, IL by Rev. Tom Spain. Burial will be in Rosemont cemetery in Plymouth. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of services Sunday at the Community Center. Memorials may be made to the Plymouth Circle Community Center.

The Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL is handling arrangements.
