John Henry Phillips, 87, of Plymouth, IL died at 6:45 pm Friday January 19, 2018 at his home.
He was born on October 2, 1930 in Huntsville, IL to Burtis (Mike) and Kate Hale Phillips. He married Mary Ruth Roberts on June 30, 1957 in the Huntsville Methodist Church. She survives.
John was a farmer and had also been employed over the years with Triple S Coal Mines, Rollo Robbins Bull-Dozing, Augusta Farmers Co-op, D & M Earthmoving, Double A Trucking, Burton Trucking and Mark Daniels Trucking. He was a 1948 graduate of Augusta High School and attended the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Bowen, IL. John served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a life member of the Plymouth American Legion Post # 912 and a life member of Denver Lodge # 0464 AF & AM and was a member of the Schuyler County Farm Bureau.
Surviving along with his wife Mary Ruth are a son, John Jay Phillips of Plymouth, IL, a daughter, Lori Ann (Rex) Schulz of Quincy, IL, grandchildren, Stephanie Schulz Laughlin of Columbia, MO, Courtney (Levi) Lockett of Quincy, IL, Chad Schulz of Quincy, IL, Mitch (Lindsey) Phillips of Augusta, IL, Mikayla (Michael) Schone of Bowen, IL and Jacy Phillips of Keokuk, IA, great-grandchildren, Brennan and Carson Laughlin of Columbia, MO, Hunter, Hayden and Hadley Phillips of Augusta, IL, Amber and Aaron Schone of Bowen, IL, nieces and nephews, Joyce Neill Thompson, Laura Beth (Larry) Roberts, Paul (Jackie) Neill, Susie (Dan) McDonald and Kim (Missy) Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Leslie Phillips, 3 sisters, Idelle DeFilppis, Roberta (Bertie) Neill and Pauline Jones, a nephew, Michael Neill and his father and mother in law, Virgil Roberts and Mildred Roberts Brough .
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday January 27, 2018 at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Bowen, IL by Rev. Sheri Renner. Burial with Military Honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Augusta, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 Friday at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Bowen. In lieu of flowers his family request that memorial contribution be made to the Living Faith United Methodist Church or the Plymouth American Legion Post # 912.
