George Robert Wharton, 75, of Camp Point, died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Born September 17, 1943, in Adams County, Robert was a son of Dallas Glenn and Anna Irene Goertz Wharton.
Robert was employed at Caterpillar in Peoria for many years working as a fireman, crane operator, and in the foundry. He enjoyed traveling and was able to make a trip to Texas over last winter.
Survivors include his son, David Wharton (Beth), East Peoria, IL.; his grandson, Blake Wharton (Courtney), Springfield, MO.; two brothers, Ivan Wharton (Betty), Quincy, and Jim Kindhart (Becky Barlow), Clayton; his sister, Mary Smith (Don), Mesa, AZ; a step brother, Gary Evans (Marcy), Camp Point; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert was cremated. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the Camp Point United Methodist Church by Rev. Sheila Kelly. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community For Christ Assistance Center.
