Jean Lord

Jean Lord, 79, of Golden, passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois with her family by her side.

Jean was born on May 20, 1941 in rural Augusta, Illinois to Virgil H. and Mildred K. (Ayers) Roberts.

She graduated from Augusta High School in 1959 and then went to Gem City Business College, graduating in 1960. She married J. Kay Lord on September 4, 1960 at the Huntsville Methodist Church in Huntsville, Illinois.

In addition to being the Office Manager of Lord Insurance Services, Jean was a homemaker and a master seamstress, who could sew anything including clothes and costumes for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was wonderful with home interior design, often assisting with the homes of her children, and grandchildren.

Jean held many positions with the Village of Golden, including secretary, trustee, and mayor. As mayor, she implemented several beautification projects for the Village of Golden.

Jean was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, volunteering many hours of work on committees, such as the Altar Guild and the interior renovation of the sanctuary and parsonage.  In addition, she was instrumental in the design, planting, and care of the landscape around the church building, the Golden State Bank, and the Golden Windmill.  She spent many hours at the Windmill helping with dinners, decorating, and landscape care.

She was the consummate hostess and loved nothing better than planning family dinners, class reunions, and parties with her friends.  Jean was a devoted grandmother, often traveling long distances to attend her grandchildren’s school functions and athletic events.  She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, attending many games, and was always a loyal supporter of the Camp Point Central Panther teams – attending and cheering on all of their efforts. She loved having lunch with her high school friends for each one’s birthday, having many fun times with her bowling team including making costumes and creating floats.  She loved traveling all over the country with Kay. They were able to take two international cruises together as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law John Phillips.

Jean is survived by her husband Kay, her three children Jeff (Shelli) Lord of Normal, Kelli (Gordon) Rahe of Carrollton, Kent (Amy) Lord of Quincy; ten grandchildren, Kirk, Morgan, Janssen, Jaclyn Lord, Austin (Nicole), Alex, Evan, Erin Rahe, Jacob and Miranda Lord; and two great-grandchildren Makenna and Emery Rahe.  She also has two sisters, Mary Ruth Phillips of Plymouth and Bettie (Keith) White of Augusta; two brothers, Ronald “Butch” (Sheila) Roberts of Augusta and Paul Roberts of Quincy, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
